Ian Mowforth has spent more than 30 years painting and drawing. Mowforth is a painter of figurative subjects. He paints the things he loves. Animals feature, with dogs being a primary interest. Flowers are also a huge interest as he is fascinated by how colour works and is capable of exciting the viewer. He is interested in the methods of making images as well as the materials. His passion for colour and his technical ease with the use of paint is immediately apparent. He works from a studio at the Wimbledon Arts Studios in south London. He enjoys playing around with the scale of the imagery he works with, so often animals are enlarged to 100 centimetres square. Flower arrangements are given similar treatments in order to engage the viewer in the fullest sense. Mowforth trained at Wimbledon School of Art in the 80s where he took a BA Honours Degree in Fine Art, Painting and Brighton University in the 90s where he completed an MA in Fine Art Printmaking. In 2017 he exhibited a Lino cut in the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition where he sold 74 copies. The RA also published a greetings card with his image of Princess. It sold over 4,000 copies in the first 6 months. Mowforth is currently working on a new series of large scale animal portraits featuring, dogs, horses and beetles.
